York Tech Owns Maine as Week 6 Delivers Blowouts, Comebacks and Overtime Drama

The Oystermen claimed the Maine Pride uniforms, Carolina State survived a two-overtime thriller and Keweenaw Tech’s offense erupted in rivalry week.

The Battle for Maine was supposed to be the centerpiece of Week 6.

It was. Just not for the reasons anyone expected.

York Tech walked into Acadia State, scored 52 points and left with far more than another conference victory. The Oystermen earned control of the Maine Pride uniforms for the next year with a 52-13 demolition of the Mainiacs.

That rivalry rout headlined a week that also brought a furious Blue Ridge State comeback, a two-overtime escape by Carolina State, 56 points from Keweenaw Tech and a defensive struggle between Lake Charles State and Philadelphia Tech.

York Tech 52, Acadia State 13

The Oystermen own Maine

There was no ambiguity in the first Battle for Maine.

York Tech dominated Acadia State 52-13, outgaining the Mainiacs 439-267 and finishing without a turnover. Acadia committed two, and the Oystermen converted a rivalry game into the most emphatic result of Week 6.

Spencer Clemente delivered one of the best quarterback performances of the CAC season. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 232 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 40 yards and another score, giving him six total touchdowns.

Devin Hicks supplied balance with 121 yards on 19 carries.

York did not need a receiver to dominate the yardage column because Clemente repeatedly found the right matchup near the goal line. Tight end Jordan Diavate caught four passes for 40 yards and three touchdowns.

Tommy Sampson anchored the defense with 10 solo tackles, an interception and a pass breakup. His performance earned him CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Acadia quarterback John McCourt finished 17-of-34 for 215 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Greg Silva caught seven passes for 97 yards and Acadia’s lone touchdown. Nick Hoffman recorded seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack, while Damon Kacyvenski added three pass deflections.

The result carries consequences beyond the standings. York Tech has earned the right to wear the Maine Pride uniforms for the next year.

The Oystermen did not simply win the rivalry. They took possession of its first chapter.

Carolina State 36, Territorial State 34, 2OT

The Shiners steal one late

Territorial State led 21-10 entering the fourth quarter and appeared ready to escape Carolina with a major conference victory.

Then the Shiners finally broke through.

Carolina State scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime before surviving Territorial State 36-34 in two extra periods. The Shiners finished with 568 yards of offense to the Dealers’ 490, overcoming the game’s only turnover to complete the comeback.

Brian Best threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns on 26-of-42 passing. His lone interception did not prevent him from directing the late rally.

The Shiners also received two 100-yard rushing performances. Colin Farwell ran for 105 yards and a touchdown, while Owen Roy added 102 yards and another score.

Matt Holiday was Best’s most productive target, catching 11 passes for 144 yards. Sam Mixon delivered the touchdowns, finishing with nine receptions for 87 yards and two scores.

Robert Attic led the Carolina State defense with 11 tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Mike Schumacher added nine tackles and two pass breakups.

Territorial State deserved better than the final result. Erik Stevens completed 27 of 41 attempts for 357 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Pat Presley rushed 18 times for 104 yards and two scores.

Tyler Edmund produced one of the conference’s best receiving performances of the week with eight catches for 114 yards and all three of Stevens’ touchdown passes.

Greg Kurtz led the Dealers defensively with 12 tackles, two tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

Territorial State played winning football for most of the afternoon. Carolina State simply played it when the game mattered most.

Blue Ridge State 28, Daytona Beach Tech 24

Wayfinders run down the Daredevils

Blue Ridge State trailed 14-7 after the first quarter and 21-14 after three.

The Wayfinders responded with 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to steal a 28-24 road victory.

Blue Ridge outgained Daytona Beach 520-364 despite struggling through the air and turning the ball over three times. Daytona Beach also committed three turnovers, helping the Wayfinders remain within striking distance until their rushing attack took control.

Quarterback Terry Fowler completed 18 of 26 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown, but he threw three interceptions and was sacked four times.

Trent Weinstein carried the offense. The Blue Ridge running back exploded for 199 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, including an 84-yard scoring run.

Jones Camp added 92 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. His 60-yard touchdown run gave the Wayfinders two game-changing plays on the ground.

Glenn Morrison created havoc from his SAM linebacker position, recording three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. WILL linebacker Ben Sweat collected 12 total tackles, including one for loss. Josh McQuade added an interception and Kyle Webb recovered a fumble.

Even the victory came with additional stress. John Feeney, previously automatic this season, missed both of his field-goal attempts.

Daytona Beach quarterback Justice Nesbitt threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-30 passing, but his two interceptions proved costly.

Dane Jordan caught seven passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Aiden Spellman added three receptions for 80 yards and a score, while Trent McPherson finished with five catches for 62 yards and another touchdown.

David Thompson recorded 13 tackles, two tackles for loss and an interception for the Daredevils. Former CAC Defensive Player of the Week Gabe McAdam added seven tackles and another interception.

Daytona Beach owned the passing game. Blue Ridge owned the fourth quarter.

Keweenaw Tech 56, Lake Superior State 31

Owls overwhelm the Berserkers

Keweenaw Tech produced its most complete offensive performance of the season in a 56-31 victory over Lake Superior State.

The Owls accumulated 553 yards and did not commit a turnover. Lake Superior State managed 355 yards and turned the ball over twice.

Vince Parker was surgical, completing 36 of 44 passes for 397 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 21 yards and another score.

JT Salvestro was nearly uncoverable. The Keweenaw receiver caught 15 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, earning CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Eric Abraham finished with only 23 rushing yards on 10 carries, but he reached the end zone four times. Keweenaw repeatedly trusted him in scoring territory, and Lake Superior never found an answer.

Seth Bhargava helped lead the Owls defensively with six tackles and two tackles for loss.

Lake Superior quarterback Bryson Cantrell completed 17 of 29 passes for 230 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Colin Meinerz remained the foundation of the Berserkers’ offense. He rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown while also leading the team with five receptions for 60 yards and another score.

Nick Ricci delivered a staggering individual effort in defeat. The Lake Superior linebacker accumulated 21 tackles, including 19 solo stops.

Keweenaw’s offense had too much volume, too much efficiency and too many ways to score. Now the Owls carry that momentum into a major Week 7 meeting with Carolina State.

High Plains Tech 45, Coronado State 31

The Storm roll through Coronado

High Plains Tech outgained Coronado State 508-430 and pulled away for a 45-31 road victory.

The Storm committed two turnovers to Coronado’s one, but their balanced offense created enough opportunities to overcome the difference.

Howie Mundy completed 23 of 35 attempts for 286 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions, giving Coronado chances to remain competitive.

Derek Peters rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns, while Garrett Cologne added 81 yards and another score. Brendan Durant led the receiving corps with 113 yards and a touchdown.

Scotty Skaggs recorded 11 tackles for High Plains, and Cameron Wosniak finished with 10.

Coronado quarterback Alex McQuiston threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns on 18-of-31 passing. He also rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown.

James McMichael led the Admirals with 113 rushing yards, while Scott Glennon caught eight passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Alex Loiseau registered 12 tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Brendan Driver supplied the pressure with seven tackles, three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Coronado moved the football and consistently challenged High Plains. The Storm simply finished more drives.

Lake Charles State 15, Philadelphia Tech 12

Trawlers survive a defensive struggle

Not every Week 6 game was a shootout.

Lake Charles State trailed 12-7 in the fourth quarter before scoring the game’s final eight points and escaping Philadelphia Tech with a 15-12 victory.

The Trawlers outgained the Iron Horses 330-298 and committed one turnover to Philadelphia Tech’s two.

Mike Walter threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns for Lake Charles, although he also tossed an interception. Nathan O’Grady caught six passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Clifton Parker led a quiet but effective defensive effort with eight tackles.

Philadelphia Tech quarterback Kevin Wells struggled to find consistent production, completing 18 of 40 attempts for 177 yards without a touchdown or interception.

With Kevin Ness still injured, Jimmy Crick carried the ball 12 times for 92 yards. Levi Robinson led the Iron Horses defensively with 10 tackles, including one for loss.

It was not pretty, but Lake Charles made the decisive plays late and left Philadelphia with an important conference win.

Coronado has surrendered 94 points over the last two weeks, but this is an opportunity for the Admirals to reset. Alex McQuiston and James McMichael should give Coronado enough offensive firepower to control the game.

Carolina State at Keweenaw Tech

Week 7’s best matchup features two offenses coming off enormous performances. Carolina State accumulated 568 yards against Territorial State, while Keweenaw produced 553 yards, 56 points and no turnovers against Lake Superior.

Brian Best, Colin Farwell and Matt Holiday give the Shiners plenty of ways to score. Keweenaw answers with Vince Parker and JT Silvestro, who just connected 15 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

Home field and Keweenaw’s recent ball security provide the difference in what should be a shootout.

Daytona Beach surrendered 14 fourth-quarter points in its loss to Blue Ridge. Acadia was overwhelmed from the opening whistle in the Battle for Maine.

Justice Nesbitt threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns last week, and the Daredevils’ passing game presents a difficult matchup for a Mainiacs defense that just allowed six total touchdowns to Spencer Clemente.

Territorial State at Lake Charles State

Territorial State enters Week 7 following one of the season’s most painful losses, but Erik Stevens, Pat Presley and Tyler Edmund were excellent against Carolina State.

Lake Charles showed it can win without offensive fireworks. The Trawlers forced two turnovers and erased a fourth-quarter deficit against Philadelphia Tech, but they will need more than 15 points to keep pace with the Dealers.

Blue Ridge State at High Plains Tech

CAC Network Line: High Plains Tech -4.5
Over/Under: 63.5

Blue Ridge rushed for 291 yards behind Trent Weinstein and Jones Camp in its comeback victory over Daytona Beach. High Plains countered with 508 total yards and 45 points in Coronado.

The matchup changes if the Storm can slow the Wayfinders on early downs. Terry Fowler threw three interceptions in Week 6, and Blue Ridge does not want to chase High Plains through the air.

The Storm have the more balanced offense, but Weinstein’s explosiveness should keep the Wayfinders close.

Philadelphia Tech at UCF

Philadelphia Tech managed only 12 points against Lake Charles and now faces a difficult nonconference road trip while Kevin Ness remains injured.

Jimmy Crick provided 92 rushing yards in Week 6, but Kevin Wells completed only 18 of 40 passes for 177 yards. The Iron Horses will need a much more efficient offensive performance to threaten UCF.

Grant’s Week 7 Card

Week 6 belonged to York Tech, but the road only gets more difficult from here.

Carolina State and Keweenaw Tech now meet with two of the conference’s hottest offenses. High Plains welcomes a dangerous Blue Ridge rushing attack. Territorial State must prove it can recover from a devastating overtime loss, while Acadia and Daytona Beach attempt to steady their seasons.

The conference race is beginning to take shape.
